Sunday rides and cuban vibes

Whats better than cuddling up to an old favourite? Be it a blanket, a jumper, your nanna or perhaps a restaurant? Scotties Fish Cafe has been hanging in Newcastle’s East End since 1950 and has been mixing it up with a few things lately. Getting their fabulous courtyard filled with chatter and tunes.

I really wanted to soak up some Sunday afternoon rays sitting for hours over a bottle of wine, some seafood and a soloist strumming away. There was just one hurdle, well two hurdles, aged 8 and 10. Bringing in some creative family fun was going to get me my Sunday afternoon dream.

Family fun strategy number one - bikes. Its a perfect riding distance from home along Throsby Creek into the city for us. A park crawl gives us three fun stops and the kids barely notice the distance. A detour to Baked Uprising keeps us all sweet as pie.
Arriving at Scotties, the courtyard was dappled with sunshine and families picnicking on the grass and some home grown musical talent entertained. Taking a seat and ordering a bottle of chardonnay and some bar snacks, it was time for family fun strategy number two - dominoes.

Now this is not just your ordinary game of putting matching numbers end to end. Its a fabulous hour or so of conversation, multiplication and competitive play. Its social and entertaining and sitting out in Scotties courtyard playing on a Sunday afternoon, well it was almost like being in Cuba! Well not quite, a few key environmental aspects missing, but lets pretend!
Swinging by Dougheads kept everyone peddling on the journey home and a high five from everyone for an awesome family day out.
